The National Council on Aging proclaims May as OLDER AMERICANS MONTH and so do we in Peoria!
On Tuesday May 13th at the Peoria City Council Meeting, read the proclamation and Graceland Center for Purposeful Aging. Several participants were there to receive the proclamation. Christa Fuller and Peggy Jacques spoke to the city council in regards for a change in the culture of Peoria to welcome older adults as important members of our community.
Here are the details of the proclamation:
· Whereas, older adults contribute to the strength, vitality, and wisdom of our communities, enriching society through their knowledge, experience, and leadership;
· Whereas, May is recognized as Older Americans Month, dedicated to honoring the diverse and valuable contributions that older adults make to their families, communities, and workplaces;
· Whereas, the population of older adults continues to grow, and it is essential to acknowledge their important role in shaping the social, cultural, and economic landscape of our nation;
· Whereas, it is important to promote the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of older adults by providing access to resources, services, and opportunities that support their independence and quality of life;
· Whereas, we recognize the need for continued education and advocacy to address the challenges faced by older adults, including issues of healthcare, housing, and social inclusion;
· Whereas, we encourage all citizens to engage with and support older adults in their communities, fostering a culture of respect, appreciation, and inclusion for individuals of all ages.
Our goal with Graceland Center for Purposeful Aging is to create a culture in Peoria that celebrates Aging as a Privilege! And to create a senior center that can serve as a hub of resources for our older adults in Peoria, a place of wellness and fellowship!
