Thank you to everyone who came out to show support for our motion to form a Senior Services Ad Hoc Committee with the Peoria Township Board of Trustees on July 28th!

The Road Ahead: The Feasibility Study

The creation of the Senior Services Ad Hoc Advisory Committee is a crucial first step, but it is not the finish line. The committee has been charged with a critical mission: to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study on how—not if—Peoria can support a dedicated senior wellness center.
The resolution approved to form the committee outlined that it is to return to the Peoria Board of Trustees with a clear, actionable plan by April 2027. Organizations like the Graceland Center, which sees its participation grow by 5% almost weekly despite receiving very limited grant funding, stand ready to offer data, expertise, and operational insights to guide this work.

How You Can Stay Engaged
Winning approval for a committee opens the door, but active citizen involvement keeps it open. Here is how you can continue to make a difference:

1.    Follow the Committee's Work: Pay attention to township announcements, meeting agendas, and progress updates over the coming months. The next step in the process is for the Board of Trustees to nominate and approve persons to serve on the committee. Graceland Center provided a tentative list of community experts that are willing to serve on the committee. Then the committee will start its work.

2.    Share Your Vision: Talk to your neighbors, friends, and local leaders about what programs, fitness activities, and resources you would like to see in a local center.

3.    Attend Public Meetings: Show our elected officials that senior wellness remains a top priority by continuing to show up and stay informed.

Labor leader Walter Reuther once remarked, "Our nation will be judged by the way it treats its elder citizens." Through continued engagement, civic pride, and persistent advocacy, we are ensuring that Peoria passes that test with flying colors. Together, we are building a legacy of health, dignity, and connection for generations to come.
